Imperial Palace Aachen
German Historical Museum Berlin
Completed: 2001
The computer reconstruction of the imperial palace of Aachen was commissioned by the German Historical Museum in Berlin. It was shown the first time in the exhibit, "Coronations – Kings in Aachen – History and Myth" in the historic city hall in Aachen. What the Imperial Palace of Aachen really looked like, one can only depict with very few components based on modern research. The simulation stems from the present defined hypothesis and from components that have been researched and established as genuine. This is an open research model, where changes can be made at any time when new knowledge becomes available. Within the reconstruction and simulation the written report from Widukind von Corvey, who describes a coronation ceremony, is rendered in a digital scenario.
