Hohkönigsburg

German Historical Museum, Berlin

Completed: 2010

The exhibitions “Castle and Power” in the German Historical Museum in Berlin and ”Myth - Castle” in the Germanische Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg show how one lived in a late medieval princely castle, using Hohkönigsburg in Alsace in France as an example.

The central characteristic of these living conditions around 1500 is the differentiation of the rooms for distinct uses. Whereas in earlier concepts, various functions took place in one room, now in a so-called apartment, rooms for special uses are established. These include a large hall, a heated parlor, an unheated small room or the writing room.
