Synagogue in Bad Kissingen
City of Bad Kissingen
Completed: 2007
Commissioned by the city of Bad Kissingen, the synagogue destroyed in 1938 was computer reconstructed. Through construction drawings and photographs that had been handed down, the exterior of the house of worship could be pictured quite well. For the interior, however, besides sketches only one photograph, which showed the area of the Torah shrine, existed. On the basis of comparable constructions, texts of tenders for the various works and furnishings as well as pointers from eyewitnesses, it was possible to come closer to the original appearance of the interior of the synagogue. Thanks to the cooperation of the glass workshop, which produced the stained windows of the synagogue in the 19th century and still exists, details about the colors used in the windows could be won from black and white photographs.
